Dowlas were approached to design, secure planning and construct a Glamping site on previously agricultural land in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and a Site of Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) within the Mendip Hills.
This challenging scheme required many considerations to the surrounding landscape, including protection of existing wildlife, effect on the visual landscape, and careful design to minimise noise and light pollution.
We undertook thorough consultation with all relevant parties and authorities, prepared a ‘Landscape and Ecology Management Plan’ (LEMP), Commissioned design of the site, and oversaw the entire Planning process through to successfully obtaining Full Planning Consent for the landowners.
Dowlas took control of the project management of contractors for all Ground Preparation Works, Car Parking Area, Drainage, Facilities Block ‘Off-Site’ Construction as well as assisting in selecting the most appropriate Glamping Units for both the site and for the customers’ return on investment.
Post-completion of the main site, we have arranged and overseen works to the surrounding landscape, including planting of Native Hedges, Footpath upgrades, etc as designated in the LEMP.
